Sign up on the Storyvine website with your name and email address, which you’ll need for Step 2.
Download the Storyvine app on a smartphone and sign in to film yourself. You can film selfie-style – rest the phone somewhere or have a friend or family member film you. Find a time where you will feel calm and uninterrupted.
Once you are ready to begin filming, you will be asked to record an intro simply stating your (first) name and location (city and state). Then the following three questions will be asked, and you will film your answers one at a time. You can rewatch these segments as many times as you like and re-record until you are happy with your segment. Once you like what you see, you will upload the video and move on to the next prompt.
- What was the moment you knew you needed help?
- What’s been the biggest change in your life since starting your journey?
- What do you most need to say to your community or loved ones?
- Finally, you will record one last segment with the following prompt: “My name is ___, and I’m Tough as a Mother.” Once you have completed filming, you will press “submit”.
The goal of these videos is not perfection, it’s authenticity. There’s no need to write a script — just speak from the heart as one real mom to another. Once you press submit, the video is sent to our team at Tough as a Mother, and we’re able to edit and polish your recording. You’ll be sent a final copy of your story.
Stories will be featured on our website over the next few months. If you have any concerns or are having trouble with the technology, please reach out to TAAMOK@odmhsas.org.
Important note: Thank you for your courage in sharing your story. At Tough as a Mother, we are beyond grateful to have your support in helping other mothers who are struggling with substance use disorder envision a better tomorrow – that they are tough and resilient just like you. With that said, we hold your story with the utmost care and importance – you and you alone are the owner of your story. If at any time you wish to remove your story, please email us at TAAMOK@odmhsas.org.
